Title: My collection of all things western for playmobil including Native aboriginals.
Post by: The_Mad_Hadder on July 04, 2016, 00:54:18
If there is a Yes inside the brackets then I own this item mint in the box. I will take pictures but do not know if best to do it as one with all boxes and bags in it or as individual shots of each?   Also if there is a set here that I have that you would like to see the box artwork on do let me know. I know that PlaymobilDB does not always have shots of all the sides.  If there is an item that is missing from my list please let me know. my goal after all is to get them all.

Note I only collect the North American and German market. Toys made in Greece, Spain or Argentina will not be on this list.

I'd love to pick your brains to fill in gaps in PlaymoDB!  Here's the big list, with the proper set numbers matching the year of release etc:

There are a few with no pictures at all, and lots with only a front- or catalogue-picture. Anything to add to the info at hand, including what definitely does or does not have instructions, will be a great help!

Mistress of PlaymoDB,

First I would like to thank you for taking the time out to set up my list on PlaymoDB.

I filled in and sent off a PlaymoDB: Comment/Correction Form online for set 4120 Western Passanger Car about a week ago and listed all parts with their part numbers.  As the rail car comes assembled in the box there is no instruction manual, however except for the 2 luggage racks and 2 support polls each part has the number molded into the piece. The older cars came with the spring type coupler, some of the open ones I have purchased came with the metal weighted type but I believe these were just replacements. The train that I have actually running on the track has the newer weight type as to be frank although pertty, the spring type are just more meant for static displays rather then function.

Just let me know what you need and I will be more then happy to help. I noticed that PlaymoDB does not have the colour your own sets, do you want these on there or no? Also I know I am not to post instructions so do you just want me to say yes or no if a set came with instructions? What about if they come with other items such as little sales booklets or posters?

Also I just picked up Playmobil set 3365 western family today and cannot wait for it to arrive, it was a bit pricy, but its so rare and was made in Germany for Spain, but the box is of the type for items sold in germany and Canada with German, followed by English ect on the front.

Sincerely,
James

Hi James,

First of all: a police and pirate set snuck in there (the re-used number plague) - here's a corrected version.
PlaymoDB List - The_Mad_Hadder's Western collection (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=3023,3028,3034,3035,3036,3037,3056,3057,3245,3245y,3250,3278,3278a,3304,3306,3346x,3365x,3381,3383,3384,3394,3395,3396,3397,3406,3407,3408,3419,3420,3421,3422,3423,3423x,3424,3425,3426,3427,3428,3429,3430,3431,3461,3462,3481,3483,3484,3485,3485,3569,3580,3581,3582,3587,3610,3619x,3620,3621,3622,3623x,3636,3658,3700,3701,3705,3706,3729,3731,3732,3733,3747,3748,3749,3765,3766,3767,3768,3770,3773,3783,3784,3785,3786,3787,3798,3801,3802,3803,3804,3805,3806,3811,3812,3813,3814,3815,3816,3870,3871,3872,3873,3874,3875,3876,3877,3878,3958,3977b,4012,4032,4033,4034,4054,4072,4120,4121,4122,4123,4130,4350,4351,4354,4355,4356,4357,4360,4377,4398,4399,4431,4503,4504,4533,4541,4544,4552,4569,4576,4589,4620,4622,4628,4629,4652,4665,4749,4961,5244,5245,5246,5247,5248,5249,5250,5251,5252,5278,5284,5373,5458,5460,5461,5512,5538,5596,5598,5599,5608,5799,6214,6215,6270,6271,6272,6273,6274,6275,6276,6277,6278,6279,6280,6320,6321,6322,6323,6362,6369,6410,6426,6427,6428,6429,6430,6431,6462,6820,6840,6845,7024,7038,7046,7047,7068,7070,7117,7146,7170,7171,7172,7173,7177,7178,7179,7183,7185,7199,7217,7222,7239,7268,7273,7317,7318,7320,7378,7401,7402,7428,7458,7619,7648,7659,7660,7661,7662,7663,7683,7707,7708,7709,7834,7841,7843,7857,7936,7946,9997,9998;title=The_Mad_Hadder%26%2339%3Bs%20Western%20collection)

Apologies about the comment form - it doesn't work as well as it should. Just email to playmodb@gmail.com is better. I don't get to answer emails right away but at least they get to me!

In my experience, the numbers molded in are "mold numbers", the same for all colours of a particular shape of part, and don't have anything to do with the actual part number as it appears on the instructions. I record mold numbers as I find them (and will do so for any you submit), and they are searchable if I happen to have entered them, but they're of limited use.

Colour-your-own sets: oh yes, let's include them. There's not much info about them online now, so let's add to that.

I haven't added to the DB, the 2000- series and other foreign rarities, since all the info I have on them is from the Collector book, from which I don't want to copy pictures. I'll happily add your 2005 and 2008, though.

Instructions: first, a big list of all the sets with yes or no instructions, will be good, so I can take those without, off the wish-list, and find out what I need. I do have quite a few: the (http://playmodb.org/icon/playmobil_de_instructions_favicon.gif) icon means "official downloadable instructions", while (http://playmodb.org/icon/colour_inst.gif) and (http://playmodb.org/icon/bw_inst.gif) mean the colour or black-and-white instructions exist, but without the (http://playmodb.org/icon/playmobil_de_instructions_favicon.gif) I can't offer them for download. The blank icon, (http://playmodb.org/icon/unknown_inst.gif), means, I know for sure it doesn't have any. The question mark icon (http://playmodb.org/icon/question_mark.gif) marks the ones I don't know!

Also happy to hear about catalogues, other inserts, and posters. Graham and I are working on a catalogue-project, so take note of what you have and we'll get back to you.

First priority: box-pictures where there are none, and instructions status. Let's take it to email and we'll report back in this thread when there are updates for people to look at.

And as Macruran said: let's see some overview pictures - must be an impressive pile!

Cheers, Heather

All my pictures seem to be to large in size, anyone know how to bring them down to the 400mb mark so I can upload them to the forum?

Nevermind, going to embed using imgur to the post.

Please bare with me as I have to open every storage box that these items are in. I will do it all Saturday as this is going to be a 4 hour process and will have the collection up.

Sincerely,
James

We all have budgets that we must constrain ourselves in though some larger then others. I think what is key here though is we all take a fondness to those things that give us joy or help us to remember those times that did. The collection that I am trying to complete will be in the end for everyone really, sticking it on a shelf out of the public eye is what art collectors do, not me. I am going to be working with Heather over at PlaymoDB to get the Western theme all up to date. I hope that in the end you will all find it as exciting as I do when I get to cross off another mint in the box off the list.

Cheers,

Just to give you all a taste of what is in store for this weekend when I opened all the storage boxes to show off the MIB sets. Oh and do not be scared this is not a basement, but a second floor warehouse.

hahaha,

I am sure the majority of you have simular storage collections, though these ones will just be coming out of storage on Saturday for pictures and then going back in. I will get pictures of the open stuff all set up when I have time to get everything built. I am only one individual and I do not have little ones yet to use as free labour, I mean enjoy quality time playing with. Sadly, the Colour sets will not be arriving until next week, so those will not be in the picture but I will just post pictures of each item as they arrive after this weekend.

Cheers,
James

Well, I am trying (for years) to sort mine..... as noted in the neverending PROCESS : link (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=8205.0)

No kids here - and anyways, I don't think I'd want them any near my playmobil anyways!  :P

All I can say is shelves. I keep mine in boxes to prevent original box ware from sitting on the shelf. I have white lables on each box with that boxes contents. One day glass cases will come with UVA & UVB protective glass so that the boxes do not fade, hence another reason why they are kept in storage boxes.

Interesting to see.

Since you are going all UVA and UVB I will just point out that while you are storing them back you should put them in plastic bags to protect against moisture if the roof should leak etc. I am not a MIB collector and probably don't care for my archival stuff as well as I should, but I do know the risk of water damage. Since we are talking about boxes there is no way around the acidity of the cardboard and eventual decay of the packaging, just as there is a standing risk of a possible incompatible mix of soft and hard plastics. In old Marx sets from the 1950s there are cases of plastics melting because of contact between a soft plastic and a hard plastic. I don't know enough about the chemical composition of the plastics Playmobil has used but have wondered what will happen long term to some of the rubbery items. We do know that the clear light blue plastic from the space sets in the 1970s shrinks over time, and the small oval windows fall out of the old space ship or would no longer fit.

Tim,

Thank you for bringing that up. I am aware that plastic will degrade over time and without having plasticizers to rub over the items there is not much that can be done to stop it from happening. However we can slow it down and what speeds that degradation up is exposure to sunlight more over to UVB radiation and to a lesser extent UVA. Because these toys the stickers and rubberized pieces are in sealed plastic bags they are not being exposed to air which is another form of degradation. The storage room that I use has two mercury vapor low light emitting fixtures that allow you to see enough to walk the isles and then the florescent lights only come on when I need to see box numbers. My father has a rather large collection of war board games which being mainly paper product require controlled environment for moisture, and temperature.  As for water damage there is a false ceiling that has channels in the event of a leak. So far it has not been an issue however the items are insured for fire, water and theft.

What I would like to do at some point is have them placed in special cases so that they can be enjoyed rather then just sitting in a brown cardboard box with a white label on it.

But my goal right now is to get all the western theme sets and as time goes on it gets harder and harder to find them in unopened boxes.

I may never be able to collect them all, but the ones I do get I would like to preserve them for future generations.

Off topic but I'd be really interested in seeing your father's wargame collection. Has he got it posted anywhere?

As to your collection, your aim of glass boxing all your MIB sets is a high and noble purpose. I look forward to pics and I hope your project bears rich fruit. It will be a sight to see and an inspiration to collectors. The Gnomes of Zirndorf should take note.

Macroran,

The war games are all in plastic totes stacked. I would not know what is there as it is my father's collection and I never took an interest in warboard games with the little counters. I do not believe he has it posted on any site. But he has allowed me to store my collection there on an empty rack near the far back wall (rack is actually 4 feet away from the wall as nothing gets put up right against it. Though it was my father who got me into playmobil.

Here we are, took longer then I wanted to today but I persevered I hope you enjoy.

Started with the western train sets as that is the whole reason I got back into Playmobil:
Playmobil 4034 had the seals cut so I am able to show you what it looks like opened. 4033 still has original seals on it so not able to open that one and show it off.
Next, added all the direct service items
(http://i.imgur.com/0V72New.jpg)
Added all other box sets
(http://i.imgur.com/K2VrD1O.jpg)
Forgot to put set 3023, so had to stick it on the two train boxes, probably not the best idea given the weight, but needed it in there for the shot.

Because of the effort involved to get these all out of their storage boxes and then put them all back in I will not be doing another one like this. However as new items come in for the western set that I pick up to complete the collection I will post them here for you to enjoy.

That's an amazing collection. I think it's really interesting to see people who collect the same sorts of things (Playmobil) but in such vastly different ways. I have tons of sets but they are almost all split up and sorted by contents rather than kept with their boxes. I just have a few old sets that I have kept with their original boxes for some reason.

Tim,

I have that as well, who ever said OCD was a hindrance. What I am posting in this thread are just the mint in box never opened, used or played with. I actually have a ton of totes of Western themed playmobil items and about 100 meters of brass track. I just have to get some time to build my diorama. I am one person and work plus social engagements take up a lot of my free time.

Yes, I find it most interesting, keep them coming.

I guess I am an exception for not being into dioramas or building but I enjoy admiring and contemplating the designs. 3787 is definitely a favourite of mine. This watering hole fits in a proud sequence of boozy PM sets, now unfortunately (but understandably) extinct. Once you start thinking about it, Molly Brown too strikes me as most surprising in children's hands, but she too is not alone in the catalogue (think of the camp follower from 3891). ;D So quirky, how I love PM!

By the way, is Molly's face unique, or is it encountered with any other figure? Any thoughts are welcome!

I too love your pics Mad. These are amazing toys that would never get made today.

3732 is just mind blowing. A buffalo dance! This is the sort of cultural set that PM should be doing. Just imagine: the Gnomes of Zirndorf reach out to modern tribes and negotiate a new series of Indian sets that accurately display cultural practices with tribe approval. They would fly off the shelves.

Quirky PM is the only company that would even consider this sort of thing. They ALREADY OWN a toystyle that no one even knows exists.

I just looked up 3891. What an incredible set that is. Subtle yet strong. Like the Merry Men set, there are several clear potential storylines, yet nothing is heavy handed (no OMG GOOD GUYS VS BAD GUYS). A lot of space is left for the child's imagination.

I always enjoy seeing them as well. Playmobil doesn't have the best record with Native American accuracy though. They have made some great sets like the Travois one, but tend to mix their tribes badly, like putting a totem pole with a teepee or using a kachina as a toy for a Plains girl.

Mad Hatter, thanks for wetting my appetite for the saloon! I sold mine a while ago in a feeble attempt to control my collection but now you made me buy Molly Brown again. Just the figure, and it was a bargain, so thank you for that.

Now we're on the topic: this is very sympathetic review of the set: http://www.16bit.com/playmobil-3787-saloon.asp (http://www.16bit.com/playmobil-3787-saloon.asp). Some lovely wallpapers too.

Good point. They are more Karl May fantasy Indians than accurate portrayals.
They've gone off the deep end with the historic themes, most of their energies appear to be modern focused. Knights are largely fantasy, Romans aren't too bad, but not great either - still looking forward to that new Caesar and Cleopatra set though. Western family was a collection of old parts mashed together - Spanish dancing lady with cowboy, girl with cowboy hat? Not accurate in the least unless they were part of a travelling carnival.
Then they do really nice things like the Milkmaid by Vermeer.

Great stuff Mads. Love seeing these.

Well the Vermeer and Goethe and so on are all commissions by museums and suchlike. They fly off the shelves of course because that is what PM is perfectly positioned to be: The Cultural Toy. Educational even. The main themes are dumbing down as you point out. Americanizing. They are becoming as thematically sloppy as American toys.

When will the Gnomes of Zirndorf learn the lesson of Luther.

This is one context in which I would say "more diversity please". More actual distinctive cultural sets, and tone down the American influence. Even just the themes they already have could be revolutionised. Can you imagine a knights theme with actual historic personages? Richard Lionheart, the Black Prince - every European country has its famous knights. These klickies could be produced with their accurate historical heraldry, plus supporting troops (distinguished by nation, e.g. English with longbows, Germans and Scots with two handed swords, etc.), plus girlfriends, courtiers...They hinted at this years ago when they did that beautiful Swan Knight, who is of course a figure of European mythology (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knight_of_the_Swan).

Sorry for jacking your thread Mads, this topic is one I feel passionately about. We now return you to your regularly scheduled sweet vintage Western sets. May we see their like again.

Order, order! Mad Hatter has a good thing going here, please do not sidetrack with the same old hobby horses.

I want to go back to the point that Macruran raised:

They are more Karl May fantasy Indians than accurate portrayals.

True! It is hard to overrate the impact of Karl May stories and their spinoffs on German culture and beyond. This explains why until recently the Western theme has been so prominent with PM (much more pronounced than, say, in the Lego catalogue), and why it takes liberties with the American original. Nonetheless, there are some great authentic details in the Native American sets: for example, the funeral scaffold from set 3870 just blows my socks off (and begs the question of what such thing is doing in a play set??).

But I struggle to understand the ACW theme with PM. I mean, the brand does not touch modern warfare (but compensates this with an extreme focus on violence in sets for any older period ;D), which is fair enough, but why then go for the ACW? I mean, this isn't some safe "exotic" violence like a knights’ melee, it was a proper modern war! I understand that it fits the Western theme, but what I really would like to know is whether the American Civil War somehow appealed to the (German) consumer of the time to merit developing the pertinent sets. Was ACW a topic in (children’s) literature and TV back in the 70s / early 80s? Does it feature in the Karl May narrative? I love to know more about the genesis of the sub-theme.

Best wishes

In the 70s all larger PM boxes (medieval houses, castle, etc) carried on the back a picture of a Playmobüb (not too many girls in my recollection) playing with the toys. I did not know that they continued this for USA exclusives. What is this set's date?

I am not aware of any western theme playmobil sets only being sold in Canada and no where else. As for other playmobil sets I would not have a clue as that is not my area of focus. I would assume though that what ever sets are sold in the United States are sold in Canada as well though not always the case.

Next we have Playmobil 3731 (..) I really like the back of this box, look at the rolling cloud cover, you can almost feel the wind.

The rear box art is exquisite, I never noticed it. Superb composition, especially with the second Indian pacifying the horse.

These bison are so wonderful  I know they are common but I never handled one until very recently. What an exquisite figure: solid, powerful, expressive - a great toy. It's a pity that no cows were ever produced: the herd depicted here looks very high on testosterone!

Thanks for showing.

Best wishes
StJohn

I fully agree. It's marvellously sculpted. Classic PM lines.

The old box art is unsurpassed.
I like the way the modern boxes show you what's inside, but it would be nice to see some better side art on the boxes.

I know it has been a bit since my last post on this thread. Work has been busy and I have been traveling so my time has been limited. The following are items that I was able to get off someone we all know so well. Tahra whom by the way did an excellent packing job ( I was just helping her make some space :D). So without further ado.

Set 4431 (this one I am really excited about, I have been after it for so long it just did not do so well in Canada because to most the figures seemed dated)

Ladies and Gentleman I normally do not purchase an item I already have, however I came across a toy store that had closed their retail store front years ago and moved to online only. I had bought one item off them awhile back on e-bay and had asked the owner if they had any other items of the western theme. They did, a warehouse full of old playmobil toys never used, never opened, never sold. They sent me a list and I wrote back to them with all the ones I wanted.
The first is Playmobil 3765 from 1987 still with its original plastic wrap on, the one I have currently had been open though the baggies inside where still factory sealed.

Playmobil 4122 from 1987, interesting note, on Playmodb it shows a date of release of 1988, however this box clearly states 1987 on the side, the other ones in my collection show 1988, 1992. Heather this may be of interest to you. 1987-1988 were the only year that had stickers that needed to be applied, the 1989 came with stickers pre-applied and the 1992 version came screen printed. I now have all three versions of this rail car. Also of interest is the 1992 version came with playmobil stickers on top of box to seal it.

I never realised the Western train carrage had that really cool interior.....

(I try to avoid looking at the Western Train since the chances of me ever being able to justify buying it are virtually nil)

They are expensive, in Canada for a 4034 mint in the box never used I ended up paying  over 1500.00CAD I have seen one other that went for 1700.00CAD and I got 4033 mint in the box still sealed for around 2100.00CAD (after shipping and taxes). You can get used ones with most of their pieces for around 600.00- 800.00 CAD without box or go for Playmobil 4054 and get one for about 400.00CAD without box. and purchase the rail cars stand alone. You can get them without boxes for 45-75 CAD.

4032 (UK version),4033 and 4034 are extremely rare for mint in the box ones, you will usually only find them used without a box  or with a box that is in rough condition missing pieces. It was a very expensive item when they came out so to find one unopened you will need to be extremely lucky. What you can try doing is buying a broken one/ missing pieces and buy the bits that are missing.

The worst part about it is that it was nearly bought for me as a child, but I ended up going for 4001 since I felt it would work in more settings (I could use it with Victorian, Western or modern Playmobil). The number of times I came close to buying super rare sets as a child.....

Even if you had gotten one as a child it is hard to say what condition it would still be in. I was given 4034 as a child but as I had mentioned before even though I took extremely good care of it, once my brother got at it that was it. He ended up trying to ride it and broke most of the rail cars. I still have them and all their mangeled pieces. Most of the mint sets you find now are from collectors who bought them as adults back when these sets came out or toy stores that still have old stock.

Hard to say, but every time I go over to my parents place their cats always sniff my shoes so maybe its just doing that, sniffing for the sake of sniffing?

Oh it is a sythe. It was used and is still used to this day for cutting hay by hand. Also the grim reaper uses it for harvesting souls.

Yeah I do, he out grew me, it is the only reason why he is still around. Hes 6 foot 4 inches or 195.072cm depending on what unit of measure you use. It bugged me at the time, but I was not as attached to it then when he broke it. It was only in my later years that I wish he had not given the costs to find replacements.

Folks,

The following items do not really have set numbers, they were the give aways at McDonalds back in 1982 but they are the same toy that Schaper sold in sets such as 2950, 2951 and 2952. I was lucky to get the set minius the lady and the Happy meal boxes (though I will find these).

I had that Sheriff, straight out of a happy meal, back in the day. Don't remember the chair or the cape, remember the hat and the gun and the white arms and the silver star, worn more with each passing day. That sheriff.

Might have had the Injun too, can't remember. Possibly the others. All a blur.

You would not still happen to have the Happy Meal boxes they came in would you?  ;D

Thats right folks  "If After 30 days of play your kids aren't still enjoying, imagining and playing with Playmobil more then any other toy, just return the Playmobil package and its original contents along with its sales slip within 90 days of the purchase date and we will send you a check for the price you paid" Well dear Schaper, after 30 years I must say I only enjoy Playmobil over every other toy I ever had in my life.

Those Schaper hang tag sets are in great condition!
Love the travois set, it's one of my all time favorites.
It looks from teh photos like the horses in these Schaper sets have the molded on saddles. Can you confirm the horse with saddle in the McDonalds set has the saddle molded on? It would help me in giving these molded saddle horses a set link on Animobil.
Thanks

Playmobil 3478 arrived today. I never had this as a child, but it was one of my must have sets that I am searching for. I remember as a child wanting this one at bayshore hobbies, but there were only so many toys that my parents would buy us during the year.

Anyways in my collection now and for you all to see and enjoy.

It is a bitter sweet moment when I get some of my items. The majority of my MISB's are from individuals selling their collections. I tend to ask all the sellers the history on the piece that I am buying from them. You would be supprised the amount of feed back you get and how excited they are that some one cares, but not only that, that someone is willing to buy it and keep it in the very same condition that they have kept it for so long.

Playmobil 3483 arrived today, though this set has a very speical story behind it. The sellers name is Eddy and some of you at one time or another knew him on this forum as Playmoed. The reason I found this out is that I have been in the habit of supplying every individual that I purchased from a copy of the link to my thread here on this forum. My hope is that they will see what it is that I am trying to accomplish by purchasing these sets, but also that some may join and add to the discussion. Although Eddy has moved away from this forum, he is still very much active with Playmobil and is still collecting MISB sets. This purchase was a duplicate set that he had in his collection and the reason for its sale. More importantly though is with Eddy's help I have now been able to creat a morecomprehensive list of sets that fit into this collection by his ability to supply me with photos of his very large collection. He has become a great asset to me and is very friendly. Now with the addition of Famobil, Lyra, Schaper and Irwin Toys, I have added about another 100 sets to my list. Here I was thinking I was getting close to having them all.

Now back to the important stuff, box artwork from the 80's-90's! As always enjoy and keep on klicking.

So two books showed up today, different suppliers. Still have the french version coming

First page of the German version:

"Alle Mann von Fort Glory zum Appell antreten!”, ruft Hauptmann Braun. Die Soldaten stehen stramm. Plötzlich hören sie das Getrappel von Pferdehufen. Es kommt näher und dann jagt Kleiner Falke zum Tor Herein. Im Tal ist was los!”, brüllt er.

Loose translation to English:

"All the men from Fort Glory come to attention! ", Says Captain Brown. The soldiers are standing tightly. Suddenly they hear the hoofing of horses hooves. It comes closer and then chases Little Falcon to the gate. "There's something going on in the valley! "He yells.

First page of the English version:
"Attention!" Captin Silver called. It was a quiet day at Fort Glory, and the captin was inspecting his troops. Suddenly they were interrupted by the sound of horses' hooves outside the gates of the fort.

Why the different name for the Captin "Braun" Brown for the German version and "Silver" Silber- for the English version?

As always, enjoy.

Why the different name for the Captin "Braun" Brown for the German version and "Silver" Silber- for the English version?

That is odd, especially as Brown would be a more likely name than Silver for a US army person of that period.

Post by: The_Mad_Hadder on December 06, 2016, 20:14:56
My thoughts as well that it is odd to use two different names. What I am thinking is for the North American market, Playmobil  did not want to use a possible persons real name for a situation that is depicted in the book which may or may not have happend. There are a few Union Soldiers that achieved the rank of Captian with the last name Brown. I have not found one with the last name Silver. I am waiting to see what the French version has.

I know it has been slow the last little while, but I am now getting down to the nitty-gritty and the last few sets are few and far between MISB. I do have a few treasures coming (going back to that talk about "The place" that has a lot of old MISB sets)

In the meantime I picked up this advert off e-bay from Germany, it may not be of interest to most as it is not a toy, but I do so enjoy the old way Playmobil used to advertise with dioramas. Even the ones that may cause a stir here in Canada since most of us cannot read German Deutsch though I am slowly learning it on my own and just take a glance at a picture and think it means something else. (Cause you know when you have Natives and Union soldiers on the frontier mixed with 1980's misconceptions you are bound to have some fun.) So without further ado...

I apologize about the glare, it is just currently still sealed the way it came until I have time to get it framed.

Overview of full advert
(https://i.imgur.com/Z8dEYpc.jpg)

If only we could get sparks when we applied the breaks on our electric trains.

But here is the thing, if you read the advert it says:

English translation:

The story of the careless sergeant, the "fast coyote" and a wild rogue.

The Chief's son, "Quick Coyote", sat quietly on his pony, watching a sergeant who walked along the railroad tracks. Suddenly, the approaching locomotive aroused a shrill whistle. The sergeant's horse shied. The rider collapsed on the rails and remained motionless there. "Quick coyote" clung to the neck of his pony and galloped. The train driver tried to slow down the locomotive, but she was not far from the powerless(sic) sergeant.

And how does it continue? Will the train stop in time? Will the sergeant wake up again and get safe? Or will "Quick Coyote" save him? There are no limits to your imagination. Have fun playing.

I just love how Playmobil again and again sets up the story so well and lets the child's imagination take over to carry it out. Playmobil has never been a toy that played itself, it always let the "child" come up with their own stories without restrant.

This is where I personally believe that Playmobil needs to head back to, using advertisement that engages the child, not just splat a whole bunch of sets on a sheet of paper and call it a day.

Hear, hear - so very true! These old adverts are wonderful.

To be fair, the magazines, books and films on their websites have taken over the role of providing stories for children to play. But PM advertising really should improve.

Thanks for showing.

Best wishes

My guess would be the fact that the officer is still armed and lack of rope, though the writing pretty much tells what happed.

What a fantastic collection you have amassed T_M_H! It must be very thrilling to track down a set which is missing from your collection and then 'win' it! Keeping them sealed in their original boxes takes some discipline- I couldn't do it! I read through this topic today as I have been sorting through some Western/ Native American sets to sell (no boxes, nothing on your want list either!). I have a question about yellow cannon shells which you might be able to throw some light on, T_M_H, I will post that in a new topic.

There are some wonderful sets in these themes and I would have loved to have them as a child- my brothers and I certainly watched a lot of Westerns back then as well as classic TV series like The Virginian. It seems to be a genre/ period of history not very familiar to present-day children, at least here in the UK, though some of my children have studied the American West as a topic in History.

By the way, is Molly's face unique, or is it encountered with any other figure? Any thoughts are welcome!

I can answer that! Yes, the Ringmistress in Circus Zirkus 4061 (aka Circus Wild Animal Act) has the same face.

In the end, I bought a complete Molly on eBay. BTW we won't be selling the Golden Nugget Saloon, its such a great set!

There was a time when the older cannons were spring loaded and could fire the shells. If you had a good aim you could shoot klickies down. Playmobil Direct Service set 7317 is spring loaded were as set 7320 is not. The switch to non-firing happened in the mid 90's. The have brought back firing cannons now, but it is those soft tip long projectile type.

Good things come to those who wait. Many thanks, GrahamB! Molly is still among my dearest figures but this Ringmistress is a stunner too. Never noticed her, but have been avoiding the whole circus theme. Great to know, thanks again.

Best wishes

Playmobil 3346 arrived today.

Of note, I have tried to buy this item 18 times already, I have been in bidding wars where I lost out to snipping at the end with the value of the toy reaching well over 100.00CAD. I have asked sellers if they would ship to Canada who declined. I have seen these go for 60.00CAD out of the box with box and go up to 120.00CAD. Then on December 4th for 32.00CAD the unthinkable happened, a banker in a mint box appeared on Ebay and since I learned how to use the follow function I got a notice pinged to my phone and within 20 seconds that item was bought and paid. I had smiles from ear to ear, not only because I got what I was after, but the box was in pristine condition, better then the one I got snipped on.

To the individual who snipped me and got it for 100.50CAD all I can do is sit here and smile  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D  :) That's 6 full and a half grin for every 10.00 dollars more you paid then me .

Now for your enjoyment,

Always satisfying to get a bargain! Have you tried sniping? I do it all the time now (I miss out on lots of items,. but win a few to make it worthwhile). Also have you tried asking members on here to act as a postal address for sellers who won't ship to Canada? But it sounds like you can teach us all a fair bit about persistence!

I just follow, not really my thing to snip. Do not wish to do to others, things I do not enjoy being done to me. Personally I wish eBay would preform more like a proper auction, if a bid comes in, then extend the auction to allow the other bidders a chance to up their bid even if it is by 5 min. No one enjoys losing an item for .50 cents when they had their bid in days before and in the last 5 seconds of an auction someone snips. That is just my two cents on the matter.

Also have you tried asking members on here to act as a postal address for sellers who won't ship to Canada?

In time, you guys need to get to know me and I need to get to know all of you. So far I have received lots of help, I just do not know if anyone really wants to take on the responsibility of a couple grand worth of toys.

Cheers,
James

Uhm.. if you always give your max, it's a moot point. If you bid a max of 1, and someone else bids 1.50, it's cause the someone else was willing to pay more.... which is the purpose of an action.

Besides, you (almost) never know if indeed you lost by .50 - imagine the winner gave 100! You don't know (unless the new bid is less than the minimum)...

That said, it IS annoying  :P

Something very exciting showed up today. It is a Playmobil comic from 1977, issued by Playmobil-Merchandising GmbH. in Zirndorf. I will be doing a more indepth posting when I have time.

If a mod could get back to me about how much of it I can post here, it is 48 pages long and I do not know if it is still under copy right.

In Canada and the US  All books initially copyrighted in the US from 1964 through 1977 have had their copyrights automatically renewed (by law) and the copyrights are still in force. The initial copyright term was 28 years; the renewal was for 67 more years. So a book initially copyrighted in 1964 will pass into the public domain in 1964 + 28 + 67 + 1= 2060. However I do not know if Germany copyright works the same and I rather err on the side of caution.

Cheers,
James

Like everyone else, I want to thank you for taking the time to post all of the photos of your incredible collection.  My children are a bit older than you, 37 and 40, and I have enjoyed seeing all of the sets we wanted to buy but could not because they were very expensive here in the states.  Now technology has provided the opportunity to amass a wonderful collection like this, although I did enjoy taking them to that one toy store in town that had an enormous display of Playmobil.  We would make an outing of it, lunch at a small cafe, then hours in the toy store.  I actually saved all of the Playmobil we purchased as well as the happy meal folks (the only time I let them have Macdonalds), and have since collected many of the sets I wanted to buy when they were children.
Looking forward to following your collection.  I suspect it will not be long until you figure out a way to have it on display.

It is great to see these older sets in such pristine condition. Like kaethe, we have managed to keep quite a few sets our older children had in the 1990s and later, as well as picking up others from before and after that era (but almost none are MISB!) . I love that set 3747 from 1987 (not one our children had): to many that was a Golden Age when klickies were simple yet still versatile and full of tremendous play possibilities. And the box art is wonderful: smoke signals! Its great that some of these sets are still to be found MISB, even though rarity tends to push up the price. That 3346 at CDN$32 is £19 Sterling (I only just converted it!), not a bad price for such an old set MISB.

Keep em' coming!

Thank you, I hope these continue to be of enjoyment.

Now technology has provided the opportunity to amass a wonderful collection like this, although I did enjoy taking them to that one toy store in town that had an enormous display of Playmobil.  We would make an outing of it, lunch at a small cafe, then hours in the toy store.   I suspect it will not be long until you figure out a way to have it on display.

Technology is a wonderful thing, it allows others to see what may have been lost otherwise. That is my driving force behind this collection, I want to save these pieces before they are lost forever. I Cannot afford to save them all, that is why I stuck to this one theme as Playmobil has pretty much wrapped it up with no new sets for 2017 and everything left is only available through Playmobil DS which most kids do not even know about.

We have a very big warehouse with two floors and I was getting qoutes from a company that builds custom glass cabinets but they would have to order special glass that is UVA and UVB protective so that the boxes do not fade while on display. These also advised me that it will be about 1200.00CAD per case so a fair bit of money that I will have to be sunk into them and at this time it is just not in the cards. We also would have to install LED light fixtures to again minimize the amount of UVA/UVB exposure. Regular fluorescent lights will cause fading overtime but we need to have it bright enough so that people can take pictures without the need to use a flash.  Not only will they get bright marks on their pictures because of the reflection from the glass but also we rather that flash not be used because again it can cause damage to the box artwork.

The box art work is the best from the late 80's into the 90's, I love them as well.

Keep em' coming!

Got about 100 more sets to track down, there are some blister packs from 1974 that I just found out about but the likely hood of getting my hands on them is slim, they are just so few and at a time when not as many were made. Right now I am trying to hunt down Set 3801 Watering Hole and set 3802 Mclarens Goldmine.

Sets 3421-3431 and 3461-3462 are so rare MISB, I have only seen two go up on Ebay, but my phone only lets me track ebay.ca and not ebay.de so only time I get to look is when I am near my computer for those ones really.

fortunately access to quality low light photography is also improving and hopefully a simple "how to photograph this exhibit" and a reminder of the long term consequences of not cooperating will suffice.  I suspect that any visitors will be such avid Playmobil collectors that they would be more than glad to comply.
Looking forward to more updates.

As for the comic on the back it says the following:

ONE WINDY DAY...

The Bell IS FALLING INTO THE POND!

SHERIFF TO THE RESCUE

SCHOOL IS OPEN!

THREE CHEERS FOR THE SHERIFF!

(Yes it is all in capital letters, but I do understand why the adults cheer, they all hate P.A. days)

Well "that place" started shipping me the first few items.

I am excited to show you all set 3767 still in its shrink wrapping original German version from 1987 (notice the Inhalt appears first and not Contendio as a lot of sets on ebay will show). This is the highly sought after one here in Canada and the US, both box versions are the same toy however, but only this one was sold here.

That's helpful, seeing 7317 and 7320 confirms they have the 'smooth' (ungrooved) yellow shells, ungrooved ram rods and the 5-pin shell holder, something I was wondering about.

How can you make the non-firing 7320 more fun?

Stupid american cannons keep dropping the... "pusher"... cause there is no spring. I don't give a darn if it shoots or not, but having that part always dropping is ridiculous.  >:(

How can you make the non-firing 7320 more fun?

By making it the firing version. I can PM you with instructions on how to do this. I will not post it in the forum as Playmobil had its reasons for removing the spring and I respect that choice. You can order generic springs that meet the required specs off of e-bay, I am sure Amazon will find you a supplier as well. All other parts of the cannon remain the same between the two versions. The reason why the later version firing rod falls out is due to the lack of the spring to keep it in compression.

Finally got 3037 MISB, never had as a child, but this is an amazing set. As close as Playmobil has gotten to a Pinkerton stage coach, though if I could have them pump life back into the western theme I think it would be one children would like. It would be an armoured stage coach with a gatteling gun, how awesome is that? Though PM would probably slap on a cannon like the one used in Playmobil 9055...

Is the saddle on that horse molded on? Or is it a separate piece? It looks like it might be the molded one. If so then it is super rare, as in I know of two people in the world who have confirmed examples of it and I am not one of them. It would be great to confirm what set series it came from and may make the hunt easier. Thanks

Tiermann,

Unfortunately the saddle is a separate piece so I cannot help you narrow down your search as of yet. Though I feel I can point you in the right direction as the only horses that I have ever come across that have molded saddles are the ones from Schaper that they had made in Malta. You want to look at the year 1982-1983 other that they changed to match what Playmobil in Germany was putting out. I hope this helps you on your quest.

As for rarity, I am going by the collectors book and if they were the top rarity in 2007, 10 years on I can only assume..., that and the fact that next to the trains, this is one of the most expensive pieces I have purchased thus far.

Oliver, I agree about a re-issue but you can get loads of complete sets of this on ebay for around 30-40 bucks Canadian, thats like 31.00 US... They do come up often and are selling for probably the same price that Playmobil would sell it for as a direct service, plus you get the klickies to boot. It is the ones that have never been open that hardly show up. Took me 9 months to find the one I got.

Tiermann,

I stand corrected, in 1974 Playmobil Geobra released a brown horse that was one piece with saddle. I am going to do some more digging with my contacts and see what sets came out that year with white horses. Because my collection is limited to the western theme the oldest all "white" horse is in set 3484 from 1979 that I am aware of.

We have a bunch of brown horses and black ones with molded saddles... I don't THINK we have a white one...

Yes Black and Brown ones are known to me, I have both as well still sealed in original packaging. This white one however, if any you would think would have been in the "Color" set.

I have started a new topic for the subject of a white horse with molded saddle so that this topic does not get off track. I do want to hunt down an answer so that Tiermann can get his hands on one.

Went to post today and got the following message:

"Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days. Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic. "

I am aware it has been awhile, but my life changed on the 21st of February and with my increase work load I have not had much time to post. However as you will see over the next few days that does not mean I have not been collecting.  So without further ado here is Playmobil 3462 mint in the box still sealed. If you would like to know what I paid for this including shipping and customs charges add a "0" to the end of the price tag on Photo 5

I know it has been a bit since I posted last, but work has been busy. I have a few Schaper sets that I am excited to show you all. I got these from a store in the States called "Toys by Roy" He had a posting on ebay and I had asked if he had any other items, well he found these treasures still in their original boxes and a Display set!!

Playmobil set 1104 MIB now. Box is open on the sides but inside is all still sealed. Shipper opened it prior to shipping to me to show me the contents....

Playmobil 3702 (You wont find this one on playmodb as of yet) Accourding to the box this item is made in USA, Malta and West Germany (You know back then cold war and all didn't want things from East Germany), this was the saying before US started doing " Made is USA with global materials"

And here we are the 3rd Playmobil display case I have been able to get my hands on. What are the other two you ask? you will soon see but they are big and I need time.

Here we are Schaper 1110 display. These were long out of store before I was even into Playmobil, but for some of you this may be a trip down memory lane. As always I hope you enjoy.

And the very last and rarest of them all the Trading Post (This one never got released in McDonald's restaurant because they opted out of the toy well before it was slated to arrive at participating locations (though there were a few locations in Illinois that did. If you happen to come across one grab it.

If you would like to read more information on the recall you can find it here:

I will be doing another thread on this form for just the Playmobil McDonald's merchandise to make it easier for individuals to search.

I want to extend a big thank you to Peg, you have done so much to help provide me with some much needed sets as well as parts. Thank you for sharing your story with me and I look forward to including it once I start setting up everything.

That looks great. They are the ramps for the freight station but work well there too. There is actually a narrow solid ramp for the cattle car that could be used there too, but those big ones look great

Tiermann, I was aware but I needed them for my own selfish western reasons. I had tried to order them form Playmobil Parts but they are out of print so I have been looking else where. I wanted them because from what I could tell Playmobil never sold ramps for the rail cars that were wood like, only that grey concert one. Can you let me know which ramp you are referring to for the cattle car? I would also love to get more of these ramps if I could.

Oh one other thing and I want your feed back, should I keep this thread for just MISB or should I just put everything in it? I do not know which would be best for the forum.

You can see it in the photo for 4029
(http://playmodb.org/setpics/4/4029.jpg)

I also have a piece thst looks like a ramp that I don't know  for sure where it's from. It came with a Playmo train lot. It's brown and six inches long with planking running the long way with slightly turned in corners.

A nice condition box, TMH. I see it is an Irwin toys version of 3242, but it appears to have identical contents to the "German" 3242 Version 1 of 1975-6. That 'lineart' picture on the back gives a clear inventory of the contents but without the colours. Since it sounds as if the box has partially opened itself with age, is there any chance of some pics of the contents, even if still in bags? I would love to know if that cookpot shown on the front of the box really is silver!

I gently opened the box and it is neither silver, nor white nor cream/ brown color but rather looks like a dull bone color different though then the ones that come in the Native Indian sets. Different then the cuffs or the flag which are a bright white.

Sort of off-white then? Not silver, that's a shame. Another case of box picture colours not matching contents.  :(

What is the difference in contents, T_M_H? Collector does not give two versions of this set (which just means Axel Hennel was not aware there are 2 versions), just one, the 'Sears Exclusive'.
