If you look at some of the sets, it seems that there is a theme of conflict between Winter World and a different, more temperate place.

Conflict? I see two sets where the frigid princess is rescued from her ice cave by a hot blooded prince from a land of summer.
The royal couple also look suspiciously like Edmund Pevensie and the White Witch from Narnia.

I agree that Spring World and Winter World seem to be at peace. Apparently all one needs to traverse the Crystal Gate between them is a crystal bracelet, according to the catalogue.

You don't watch enough Game of Thrones perhaps? 
The end of the last season one of the fire breathing dragons became an ice-fire breathing dragon.
