Hazmat In Town
« on: November 22, 2010, 09:30:35 »
There was a chemical leak in town last week (at the swimming centre)

And guess who were on the front page of the local paper:

AWESOME!!!!!! :apple: :apple: :apple:

They are identical!!!! (Sorry, I always get so excited when I see real life Playmobil)

3180 - Hazmat Crew

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is always exciting to find things matching Playmobil, here in the UK, and I was quite suprised by this one :) It must be the same equipment for the whole of Europe?

Are they called HAZMAT here in the UK? the paper just said they were firefighters in gas tight suits

Damo :)

HazMat is an abbreviation of Hazardous Materials as that is what the suit protects against.  It may be the US use of this term that has taken hold in Europe.  The Americans seem to have more influence in creating international terms that us Brits.

Thanks for the real life comparison, Damo :)9! I used to be a HAZMAT team member years ago, before all of the advanced current technology had been applied.
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

Yeah, HazMat is what we call it here. Those suits do look exactly like playmobil. You're just as crazy as I am, Damo, always seeing real life as playmobil!  :P

When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown,
The dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

Yes, it seems to be a standard term now.

HazMat is an abbreviation of Hazardous Materials as that is what the suit protects against.  It may be the US use of this term that has taken hold in Europe.  The Americans seem to have more influence in creating international terms that us Brits.

But remember they have to use English to do it!

After the Twin Towers attack Sky News got hold of the Playmobil hazmat team and came up with this:

Why do they have to be related to a terrorist attack? For goodness sake, Sky News, get a grip...
