Title: JLMatterer's Collection
Post by: JLMatterer on April 22, 2016, 17:04:44
I'm approaching my 1st anniversary; I made my first Playmobil purchase on May 6, 2015. To celebrate, I've been buying Playmobil like mad for the past couple of months; here is MOST of what I purchased in the past 3-4 weeks, lumped together on one table in no particular plan. There are a few things not here, including 5 sets that I got right after taking the pictures, one of which is still in the box.

You have been busy! You're keeping fairly within a theme there so it all sort of fits together pretty well.

Great additions and very nice pictures!!
I didn't get pictures of my new additions from last summer until today. I think I have to do the same as you did here!
Very nice idea! Thanks for sharing.

George. :)

Post by: JLMatterer on April 27, 2016, 22:39:22
I ordered 4672 today from a toy store in Atlanta, GA. I'm hoping this store will turn out to be a good source for Playmobil. We'll see how this first order goes.

Oh well - no luck with the last order. of the Archer. They refunded my payment due to being no longer available. That's a pity, as there were many older items at their online shop that I've wanted for awhile & I suspect they're probably not in supply.
Title: Happy Meal - Sheriff
Post by: JLMatterer on April 30, 2016, 21:18:45
I was given a chance to get to Classic Plastics Toy Store last week; this is the store in Parkersburg, WV, where  I found the old klickies a few weeks ago.

I found two treats: The first was a baggie with a knight klickie & a horse. going for $0.49. The klicky is the Blue Knight, 4616. The horse I can't identify. All I can comment on is that the saddle is not a separate piece.

Through DS I've found all the other pieces for the Blue Knight set except the shield & the helm plume. Can you help in my quest?  :P

The other item was an unopened Happy Meal from 1982, the sheriff with rifle & rocking chair. It was $4.99; I don't think I'm going to open it but instead keep it as is. I was very excited to get it.  :lmao:

THe store has been advised to keep me abreast of any new Playmobil that comes in.

Yes, I have both those spare. But someone nearer you may have them and help save on shipping costs (I am in UK).

eeoouw!

Oh, I see. Nice find! The toy which set back the acceptance of Playmobil in the US by 20 years. (that's probably a bit harsh, tbh).

How do you mean?

Oh, I just meant that Macdonalds withdrew the US giveaways due to worries that children might swallow the small parts (possibly masticating them in preference to the Happy Meal?). I got the impression from some of the things I read about this that it did not exactly help PM's marketing in the US at the time, but maybe I got that wrong? No offence meant, well not to PM anyway, but you might guess I am not a fan of the big M company!

I guess I was unaware of that or, more likely, once knew and forgot about it. A McDonkey's sherriff was my first klicky, as far as I can remember, so in my case at least it worked. I don't know if I whined in order to get them but I distinctly remember having a western wagon and a firefighter team in the wake of the sherriff.

Haven't eaten at Donkey's in probably almost two decades.

And some information from Wikipedia:

"Playmobil was introduced to the USA by Mattel and Schaper.[8] In 1982, Schaper arranged a promotion to distribute Playmobil toys nationwide as in McDonald's Happy Meals. The five Playmobil toys that were to be included in the promotion were a Sheriff, an Indian, a Sheriff's Horse, an Umbrella Girl and a Farmer. Approximately 10 million of the Sheriff and Indian Playmobil toys were distributed from October 22 through November 1, 1982. Before the other toys could be distributed McDonald's ceased distribution and promotion of Playmobil at its restaurants after tests showed that the toy failed to comply with Consumer Product Safety Commission standards designed to prevent children under three from choking on dangerous items. (The Playmobil toys were not involved in any reported choking incidents.) McDonald's customers with children under three who received these toys were advised to discontinue their use and return the toys to a McDonald's in exchange for a dessert, a cone, or a refund."

So the part about setting back PM's reputation in the US may not be true, but it adds a bit more interest to these McD figures. Sorry to hijack your topic, JLM!

Title: 5893 Carrying Case Pony Farm from Used Toy Store
Post by: JLMatterer on June 28, 2016, 17:01:04
The "classic" toy store in Parkersburg, WV, often holds Playmobil for me whenever they find any; this was the last thing they had for me. I got it yesterday & it is in excellent condition (the carry case isn't even scuffed), & is only absent a few pieces. The girl klickie (40 11 1660) is missing, as well as a mole, the carrots, & 2 turnips. Unfortunately, DS here & in the UK is out of stock on the girl, so until I can find her, this spare boy klickie, also from the used toy store, works nicely with the original set's hat. The other pieces I have from other sets, so I added them for the picture. I didn't bother with the mole because I find them a little disturbing.

The best part - a friend picked it up for me from the store, & gave it to me, saying, "Look! There's even horse... manure!" Sure enough, there is a pretty pile of plastic Playmobil pony poo-poo! (Look in the wheelbarrow.) The DB has this classified as, of all things, "Ice cream, scoops in a pile"!!!!!! LOL.... Those are amazing ponies, that can produce frozen chocolate treats!

Very nice! It will slowly take over more and more space...at least that's been my experience.

This is just the shelf in my bedroom. There are three more identical shelves, mostly full, in the library. Plus 9 full storage boxes on the floor, & stuff all over the set-up table, & assorted bags....

My birthday is in 12 days & there are 16 unopened sets waiting for me, piled on the floor, with 2 more expected in the mail soon. I've been saving Playmobil since Christmas for a special Christmas in July birthday; since I was sick last December, I saved all my Playmobil presents for a later time, & have been adding to the pile since then.

I was going to wait until the actual day to start opening, but temptation is hitting.

Title: 4847 Treasure Hunters
Post by: JLMatterer on July 07, 2016, 03:18:40
I got this a few weeks ago for $8 in a sidewalk sale; the vehicle is an actual working metal detector. When turned on and placed over anything made of metal (such as the red "rocks" that come with the set), the detector's alarm goes off. The rock landscape & tree will work will many other things; the big lizard is kind of cute. A winner at twice the price!

It comes with the landscape base with cave & tree with hanging vine, two klickies, a flashlight, rifle, big yellow lizard, metal rocks, & the metal detector-on-wheels. The detector takes 2 AAA batteries.

Those silver headbands are good on chainmail hair as it gets rid of the step.

Those longer trunk pieces on the trees, would they be the right length to replace the rocks and short trunk that the Super 4 Jousting stand sits on? I don't have any so can't check myself.

Indian Girl with Forest Animals 5278

Comes in an orange Easter Egg, which can also be used as a piggy bank. I bought this in conjunction with 5252 Indian Children with Animals, which I'll be opening soon. The two will then most likely merge for convenience sake to make one joint display.

She looks good, though Playmobil could put a little more love into the bunnies and deer. I mean they look like lawn ordiments one solid color with no added detail, at least they took the time on the racoon.

I find the utensils very pleasing for some reason.

There's a tension in Playmobil between abstraction and detail. The movement over time has been towards more detail. Recently updated animals have been ever more detailed (see e.g. horses and sheep). The unpainted ones definitely stick out in this set.

Well all things come with time. The details will come eventually. Like with these:

I had a great day on Saturday - I found Medieval House with Barn & Medieval Museum, both in storage at a local toy store, & going for the original prices - $49 for the Museum & $59 for the House. The owner says he has more old stuff in storage, so I'll think I'll be discovering some others soon.

It came in a brown cardboard box with a # label - that's an add-on, right? ??? It's the one that came out within the last couple of years, just before I started collecting. It was on the Playmobil US site the first time I went there a year ago, but disappeared shortly after.

I can't get his hat on right!  8} I saw this set when I first started collecting last year, & just laughed at it as I thought it was silly. Pigs & a mole? But, now that the PlaymoBug has bitten hard, I suddenly found myself desperately craving what I once mocked, & ordered it from the US site during a 20% sale.

This hobby is taking over.... thank God 'cause I was tired of the old ones.  :P

My partner's mother has been on life-support this past week in UPMC in Pittsburgh, PA. Things have been rough all week, but on Friday I had a chance to leave the hospital & visit a Pittsburgh toy store, S.W. Randall; there are 3 of these stores in Pittsburgh, & I went to the one closest to hospital. The store is actually in a very nice section of town, despite the presence of the derelict in the picture. Sadly, there was only a little Playmobil, but for the sake of being there, I purchased 5294 Architect with Planning Table. (There was thick dust on the box.) The clerk, however, told me the other two stores had more Playmobil, so perhaps I'll get the chance to find out.

We actually walked past the store because I thought it was a lingerie shop; those are just Hallowe'en costumes hanging in the window.

Yes - I'll probably get a couple more, eventually. I wish I had the cap in black. He's the same hair & beard as the recent Zeus; they look good together.

They arrived yesterday at my local toy store. I was the first person to buy one as I showed up as they were unpacking the shipment. They also received their order of HTTYD & everything is supposed to be unpacked & on the shelves by today. If I don't make it there today there will certainly be a s Saturday run.

I've been sick for several weeks & unable to do too much. My old camera was finally replaced at the beginning of the month but I haven't been up for taking many photos. These are some of the 1st Playmo pics I've taken. The set-up is not very good as I wasn't really in the mood but I wanted some shots of the snowfall we had yesterday.

You think a particular theme or some new sets are not for you, you can save some money there, then you get hold of one and you're hooked! It happened to me with 4340 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=4340). Not my cup of tea at all, but when I got hold of one (in a mixed lot) I couldn't sell it. It's so neat, the way it folds up and the manufacture is so precise, it just feels good! Darn clever, those PM designers!

:paddy: (this icon is not relevant, but I wanted to use it anyway! I am easily impressed....)

Post by: JLMatterer on February 02, 2019, 20:15:52
I was at Sir Troy's Toy Kingdom today & saw that they had series 15 out for sale. I have 2 cases on order & so wasn't going to bother, but I decided to play a hunch. The grasshopper on the bag is in the lower right corner, so I went to the third row of the display box & grabbed the 2nd bag in the row (essentially the box's lower right corner). I at once felt a fiddle!! The # on back for this bag was 18 U 34. The next two bags in the row were also 18 U 34, so I grabbed them as well. (I thought I should leave at least one for someone else.) I was pretty pleased to open the bags.

I haven't done that, yet. If it's still on display by the end of the week, I may do it then. I have a lot of non-Playmobil expenses right now (I'm disabled, so always a tight budget). BUT, the summer sidewalk sale begins this week at Deluxe, & there's always lots of Playmo for really at cheap prices. I may need to re-evaluate my economics.

Do you have a pic of that Ghostbusters one?

It's still on sale, as of today. I told the owner that if they don't sell it, I'd be interested in getting it. So, if anyone here is interested as well, let me know.

What is “Deluxe”? How good are their sales? Would they have some older stuff, like Fort Brave?

Thanks, how good is it for money?  It seems to have two out of four black figures from the car set and two out of four tan figures from the classic look box set. Plus the full Staypuff set. So what's that, about $17 savings plus the cardboard stand. $15 for the stand seems a bit much, good thing they reduced the price.

If I thought it would survive the trip I'd give you the 63USD just for the whole thing and you just send me the cardboard display (i'd pay the shipping of course) and keep all the toys.

I'm sure it's a great shop, but the three testimonials on their website all contain the same basic grammatical error*, so maybe they need to get someone else to write them?

*I'm with Bill Bryson on thinking grammar is important!

Here's a bad pic of the back of it. It seems to be somewhat collapsible. I'm sure I could get it packed up properly for you if you're seriously into getting it.

I've been calling the winged thing "mothman." The girls case is waiting for me at Deluxe; I'm waiting for money. I think the knight & the German are nicely done, as is the cellist. I'm keeping multiples of 6 of the figures, & saving the leftovers for Christmas gifts.

Today was a good day For Playmobil. I went to Deluxe Toy & Hobby to pick up my case of Series 16 Girls, & saw that the HTTYD window display was on sale for $49. It included the stand & everything on it; I ended up with everything you see here. The Deathgripper dragon hadn't even be opened yet.

The store has expanded & moved their Playmobil, & offered to give me all the old displays they're not going to keep! I should be getting some interesting things soon.

The store & I have a very good relationship; I give my extra fi?ures to their grandkids.

Some great stuff there, congrats on the display.

Does the 50s guy come with a full set of cards or just the two shown?

Chinese woman has an amazing print, also really like the steampunk woman.

They could have used a better torso for the detective. Where's it from, I have a couple of these but don't remember.

Exactly my thought! I was going to illustrate it with a photo too...

These Sykronians are quite weird, but they didn't catch on with the PM buying public, based on the fact that set 9411 was sold cheap in Home Bargains (a budget store), the only reason I bought the set!

Nice to see an army of them like that, JLM. I believe their attempt to invade Planet Earth was thwarted by an unfortunate miscalculation of scale when their entire battle fleet was swallowed by a small dog (thanks to Douglas Adams again for that one!).

One thing about the aliens though, you don't have to de-twin them because maybe they are really all twins from the same egg batch? Or clones? Anyway I am not as concerned with them looking all the same like with a human based grouping.

I noticed Playmobil used "real" heraldry here. Or is gold & gold is a metal, not a color. Gules is red, which is a color. Metal must never be on top of metal, & color must never be on top of color. Both the rampant lions & the crown are designed correctly, & the counterchange between the red & gold follows heraldic rules. Well done, Playmobil!

I LOVE that klicky - well, mostly the torso, waistarmor and roman neckpiece... (the hair is a goner, since it can't really be seen in the movie anyways!)

I second that, except for the head. Luckily he will be included in the second series of MOVIE Figures (to be released next month), so easy to stockpile. :D

I always find it refreshing to see how diverse tastes can be – I'm into this figure for the legs mostly (and the sword too), whereas I don't care much for the rest. We should be splitting its parts! ;)

It would be a pain if we were all after the same - and trades would be impossible..

If you do like that leg sculpt.. we should talk :D

There's a reason to it, I totally wouldn't mind recreating something of sorts:

Though, alas, I'm afraid there are not many (if any) black helmets to choose from.

One interesting thing (for me, anyway) - the "Caretaker", who is actually the "Miner 49er" in the cartoon, has a beard which fastens around the neck, not in the notches on the sides of the head like I'm used to seeing. I guess this makes it a "fake" beard, which is appropriate, & also might explain why the vest is printed on & is not a separate piece.

I haven't been able to count a full box, as I've been buying them piecemeal from WMArt. I got the box because I bought the last 4 that were in it & just snagged it. I'm assuming 24, as well. BTW, my WMart is selling Series 15 next to Scooby-Doo, & they are also in the smaller-sized case.

I don't know if this means that WMart is getting this sized box exclusively, & that toy stores may have the regular Series size boxes for Scooby....?

I don't have any pictures to share yet, but I've acquired some great items recently. Sir Troy's Toy Kingdom gave me two of their Florida FunPark animated displays, the Fire Brigade & the Royal Princess. They are still in their boxes here at home; I have to get an electrical adapter as it's a European system. They are very large; the two displays filled the back of our pickup. Here is Sir Troy, w/ my partner to the right.

Deluxe Toy & Hobby has given me many store wall displays, including Novelmore, & a small Scooby-Doo display box which holds the van & figures; over the weekend I purchased two unopened full window displays, which are also still in their large boxes. One is Novelmore & the other the new Mermaids. The Novelmore display has the Burnham Raiders Fortress, the Wolf Team, & the Water Ballista. $197 in those three sets from Playmobil, which I got for $100, along with the large display stand.

The mermaids display has the Pearl Shell Nightlight, the Mermaids Cove, the Pearl Collectors w/ Manta Ray, the Beauty Salon, & the Sea Snail Gondola. These sets come to $175 on the Playmobil site, but it was also just $100.

I'll try to get pics soon, but I haven't even put together The Movie display I got a few months ago.

The best thing, other than the $ savings, is that all the sets have their stickers already applied.

Here he is, in my messy bedroom. He is ENORMOUS but very light; he can be picked up with 1 hand. The head is removable, as are the arms. The arms are attached to the body with wing nuts which allows them to  move.

The previous owner is a LEGO collector who bought the PM figure from his toy store for his grandkids, but now needs the room for more LEGO. He was $200, & is in excellent condition. I can't quite yet believe that I have him.

It looks as if Deluxe Toy & Hobby has never set it up, which raises the question: do they get these promotional displays for free with their orders, or do they order and purchase them intentionally? Do you know?

It was opened up enough to see what sets were included, so the store knew what to charge, but it wasn't emptied or put together. I suspect they get these displays for free, as they're a long-time dealer with a unique relationship with corporate PM. I don't mind paying for them, as I get a big discount & I want my local store to get good business from me.

The displays that they do use in the window are usually put on sale to the public after awhile, but they are offering the unopened ones only to me. I have 3 more waiting to open: Novelmore, Rescue, & Vacation.

Title: Unopened Novelmore Display
Post by: JLMatterer on July 03, 2020, 20:56:52
I finally got around to opening this; the stand isn't assembled yet, of course.

Unopened Novelmore store display, with 70221 Burnham Raiders Fortress, 70225 Novelmore Wolf Team, & 70224 Novelmore Water Ballista. The sets arrive mostly pre-assembled (see pics), with all the stickers applied. (Yes!!!) The fortress itself was nearly complete when opened. It also came with un-assembled (flattened) boxes of the entire Novelmore series. I haven't put together the display stand yet; the B & W pics are the assembly instructions.

Title: Re: JLMatterer's Collection
Post by: JLMatterer on August 04, 2020, 22:10:32
The hat adapter is a piece of black rubber, round on top & flat on the bottom. There's an arrow on top indicating the front; the round part fits into the hat, & there are slits on the flat part that are formed to fit the top of Scooby's ears (the ears have little nubs on top).

The witch is also someone in disguise, so, yes, there's a double-face. The hair is white! BTW, Scooby's eyes are different from set to set, something which I just noticed.

And the gargoyle too (what's the bottom like - how does it attach to the roof?) .. and if the columns are available.. well...

The weird klicky is nice too...

What's the redish thing on the grave?

The bats are amazing. Those are balloon strings, & there are small pieces that clip on the branches that they fit into. There's a hole on top of the crypt roof, in the back, where one will fit as well. The gargoyle has a hole on the bottom which allows it to be assembled as shown in the pics. The red thing is what PM calls a "grave light." The art on the box makes it seems as if it lights up, but it doesn't, which would've been nice. It is actually the button that is pressed to propel the skeleton out of the grave.

We have waited decades for them to do a cemetery set and they got it so right with this one. Love the use of the magic box as a coffin. Great they did the gargoyle so it can sit on any surface, that one's going on my parts order wish list for sure. Can't have too many gargoyles. The bats being able to fly is excellent too.

Yes, it is. It's pretty big so I didn't include it in the pics. It's made of a rubbery material & is well constructed.

The shutters open up as much as you see in my pics. I leave them open because once they're clicked back into wall, it's very hard (for me, anyway) to get them to open again.

I already need more bats.

That's a great photo-review, Jim! An interesting set with some familiar and new parts. I like the dustbin (trash can) and long-case clock, but the bookcase is a little disappointing being just one lump of plastic, where the front doors could have been separate and hinged. Gold door handles will be useful for replacing parts missing from the 5300 mansion, if they are available as spare parts.

Is the double chimney pot crooked (as on the top left of the first pic) or straight (as on the eigth pic)?

I knew someone would notice that!  8} LOL. It's straight. The top comes off easily as the bones are stored in the chimney. A small tray holds all pieces in the chimney, & when the tray is removed the bones come tumbling down into the fireplace. See pic. The pots didn't get put back on properly after I loaded up the chimney.

I'm not usually that observant, but the crooked pot looked very appropriate. There's lots going on with this house, as a child, I'd have loved it. But at £90, I think my wallet is safe!

PS I just found one for £75, but my wallet is watching me carefully at the moment.....

A small tray holds all pieces in the chimney, & when the tray is removed the bones come tumbling down.

Neither this feature nor the stairs-which-turn-into-a-slide are shown on the playmobil website. This really is a great set. Wallet is now growling and showing its teeth...

The coffin has interesting features as well. It can play 8 different audio bits - 3 cartoon sounds, a howling dog, squawking crow, cackling witch, squeaking door, & wailing ghost. One of the transparent ghost cards can be placed inside & the coffin turns into a mini-projector. Quite fun, & more enjoyable than the how the ghost cards work in the Mystery Machine; the light inside the van is so bright that the ghost cards don't work very well & are barely visible. They work much better with the coffin & the image can be cast on any surface & waved about on walls, etc.

Graham, I FINALLY discovered how the shutters work. When they're clicked into the doorway so that they are hidden, you pull back on the gargoyle & the shutters fall back into place. There are SO many little clever bits with these sets.

Hopefully good. And to think I almost passed it by. Goes to show, when thrifting— always bring an extra person!

JLMatterer, do you have the main everwhatsit characters from comics and music?

If so, can you please post some pics of the sets - especially the animals

I just saw this - duh. Yes, I'll post the main figures & the critters; series 3 main figures aren't available yet in the US.  :(

Thank you - but I think that's the green llama?  From the comic s2 I have that one and the red meerkat (part numbers available)
Have all the s1 candy and there are also two part numbers available for s3 music (the cat and the panda), hope to get them on the next ds order..

Awesome, thanks for sharing, JLMatterer :)

I think they are gorgeous, except for the woman having a male torso :(  IMO, it would have been far better if she had the old lifted skirt torso. Also, classic hairs on both (well.. DEFINETELY not THAT hair for him, right?  :P )

They also say "STARBUCKS" on the back, I think?

Are the little card thingies keychains as well?

I had never realized there's all sorts of STARBUCKS promo stuff, and crazy people for them  8}   (I still always think of Starbuck - played by Dirk Benedict  - whenever I see that. Can't help it. My age showing.)

Yes, "STARBUCKS" in small print & not too obtrusive, & yes, the gold reward cards are also key chains. From what I've read, though, the reward cards only work in S Korea.

Will you keep them in the bank in a Deposit Box?

Yes. or the equivalent thereof!

Title: Big Ones
Post by: JLMatterer on February 26, 2021, 21:45:21
Connie from Deluxe Toy & Hobby called me today; it's nice when that happens. PM is offering her 8 30" figures & 7 life-size figures. The 30" are a pirate; police officer; lion knight; construction worker; truck driver (promotional for a trucking company with "Speed" on the jacket); 2 female figs, 1 brunette & one blonde; & another fig of which details I didn't get. They are $60 each but she's letting me have them for less.

The life-size figures are considerably more expensive; common decency prevents me from saying how much. They are Santa; princess; Spirit; construction worker; pirate; knight; & a Novelmore fig.

I'm getting 1 each of the 30" figs & the life-size Novelmore. No surprise to anyone on the forum, I'm sure. I'll be at Deluxe tomorrow & may see pics of everything.

Deluxe is offered these all the time, so if anyone is interested, let me know.

Walking into Deluxe Toy & Hobby can be an adventure sometimes. I stopped by today to put $ on my never-ending layaway, and was asked if I was interested in something... dangerous words. Connie was going through their warehouse & found a quantity of store displays from 15 years ago - quite a few of them. I don't know what they are yet, but I accepted the offer & will be getting them all. I can pay as I go. I paid for one today & will pick it up later this week.

I appreciate the opportunity to get stuff like this. I really do. I'm getting so much stuff, though, that I don't know what to do with it all. A first-world problem, I suppose. My partner doesn't care in the least, which must be a blessing of sorts.

There's an "unofficial" Lego museum about 1/2 hour from where I live; it's in an old school & so has rooms galore. Maybe I should rent space for an "unofficial" PM museum. (Just kidding.)

Speaking of displays, I did get the circus display I talked about earlier. It's a huge pile of a bunch of stuff, so I'll try to post pics soon and have all of you to please help me figure it out. There's a circus tent, a cyclist on a tight-rope, etc.

Title: First Window Display
Post by: JLMatterer on March 03, 2021, 22:21:21
I picked up my first display from Deluxe today; it was still unopened. All it said on the box was Shaufensterdisplay, which means store-window display. It turned out to be a City Life Children's set-up from 2014.

It has: 5567 - Sunshine Preschool
5568 - Children's Playground
5569 - City Car
5570 - Playgroup
5571 - Children with Crossing Guard
5572 - Ball Pit
5573 - Mother with Twin Stroller

With it is a large, still unassembled display stand, the usual kind that comes with these things - heavy paper/cardboard with a colorful design. Ill try to get pictures tomorrow.

Also today I got my 4th Ojo, & am expecting the 5th one tomorrow, along with the new green T-Rex. Happy Playmobil days.

It's the first one I've put together; it always seemed very daunting to me. It wasn't that hard, after all. I have several more still unassembled: Novelmore, The Movie, 2020 Vacation, & 2020 Rescue Squad. I'm supposed to be getting the 2021 Zoo display, & there are still quite a few displays up to 15 years old that Deluxe is selling me, one at a time. It's fun but a but terrifying - what will I do with it all?

Yes, I had to give those up.. Have the original Viking one in a crate in one of the playmomountains (the thing where the boxes were placed)..  When I find it again, I will need to try to sell or trade.... Just cutting the viking seems a waste. But the thing is HUGE.

These displays come with everything mostly pre-assembled; I guess PM gives the store employees a break in putting up the displays. I didn't have to deal with System anything. All the stickers are already applied, which I just LOVE  as I hate putting on stickers. I just have a bed, a smallish computer desk, & a closet; everything else in the "bedroom" is PM. There's another bedroom which is just PM in massive heaps all about. Darell has his own bedroom, which is sacred territory & I never go in.

Ex-store displays seem a good way of getting recent PM sets at a reasonable price. Ready-assembled, ready-stickered, un-played with, hopefully complete! I only ever bought one ex-display item (on eBay). That was a camper van with the remnants of glue from a glue-gun on the wheels, not too easy to remove but I managed in the end.

Keep 'em coming Jim!

When I was in Deluxe picking up this last display, I asked Connie if there were still a lot of displays left for sale. She said yes. I asked her how many - she gave me a weary look and said, "I lost count." I gave her a thumbs up & said I'd be buying one every 2 weeks. These could be anything going back to about 15 years. I have many months of surprises ahead.

She also has the 2021 Zoo display on hold for me.

They're only selling me unopened displays. I think they've realized they make some $ that way. The ones that have been in windows usually aren't worth buying, as the sun bleaches the display & their grandkids play with them & lose parts. The first few displays I bought had missing parts & pieces from other displays mixed in.

Title: Tattoo
Post by: JLMatterer on May 01, 2021, 22:04:03
The newest addition to my collection.  The artist is Patty of Patty's Art Spot (https://pattysartspot.com/) in Morgantown, WV. The next to last picture is of 2 customs I made of Patty, which I had given her last year. The last pic is Patty herself.

I have a rare plant from tropical Mexico, a Queen of the Night Orchid Cactus (https://www.gardenclinic.com.au/how-to-grow-article/queen-of-the-night), & brought her cuttings as a gift. I think because of that, & the figures I made, she did the tattoo as a gift - an unexpected surprise. It was a very positive experience.

That's the angle they should have taken for a PM film. Not making a film ABOUT Playmobil, making a film of a preexisting story but in Playmobil form.

Well that's new. At least they are using the empty space better. I have always assumed they use the oversized boxes because of the way they take up shelf space and make sets look bigger. The problem of course is that when you open it and it's only half full it can be a disappointment for newer buyers who aren't as used to it as we are. Something like this hits the middle ground nicely and also protects the paint on the dino better.

Copying Lego just as Lego is changing the way they do bags to eliminate single use packaging. I assume Lego  will be making their inner bags zip lock for reuse.

I wonder if those S2 Scooby Doo figures correspond to specific episodes of the cartoon series? I like shaggy's mop (the one on a handle, not the one on his head!) and the Egyptian mummy-ghost.

Copying Lego just as Lego is changing the way they do bags to eliminate single use packaging. I assume Lego  will be making their inner bags zip lock for reuse.

Or will they use compostable plastic for the bags, that would seem better for the planet? Isn't 90% of Lego single-use plastic? You buy it, build it, put it on a shelf gathering dust, then junk it. Apologies to those many Lego fans who are truly creative and don't just buy one-dimensional join-the-dots sets!

Yes - the ghosts in the full sets also come with them. I have only 1 set from series 2 so far (the black knight w/ Scooby as artist), as I'm not very excited about any of them. So many repeats from series 1!

Yes, they traded them - 1st batch of sets = figures from s2, 2nd batch = figures from s1..

You posted someplace both "ghost girls" - the hairs are different, but the klickys are the same, right?

The purple witch is different - the set one is quite darker... (same hair)

... how about now?

It's mega-big & mega-expensive. It will actually take me until Oct 2 to pay it off. In addition to the life-size, I also got 8 of the XXL figures that I'll have to pay off afterward: a pirate, construction worker, police officer, lion knight, male with black jacket, male with speed (?) jacket, female with brown hair, & female with black hair.

Sometime during this process, the Enterprise will come in, to be added to the lot, so I'll be doing nothing for awhile but dealing with lay-away. This is good because I have no deadline for it to be paid.

Yes, I'm really looking fwd to the Kaboom & will have it in time to display for Hallowe'en.

I went to the toy store on Saturday & saw that this case was out for sale; I had ordered a case months ago & asked if mine was in. Whoops! They had put my case out in the store for sale. Fortunately, none had been sold so the case was pulled & put on my layaway; I'll get it by Xmas. I snagged the top of the display as my prize for the day.

Congratulations! And what a nice box! It is shocking to compare this delivery time with our last collective order, early in 2021. I then used regular mail (DHL), and it took MONTHS to get to you. Either things have improved considerably since then (Covid-19), or the Rijksmuseum is using another shipping company. I sometimes receive items from the USA within days when UPS is being used. I guess that should be it.

I was genuinely shocked to see it was coming today; packages from Europe never arrive this quickly. It was DHL; it came from Amsterdam (Van Gogh Museum). The original ETA was Oct 18, which still would've been pretty fast.

This is worse than the unbelievalble mess of the everwhatsit - or the current ayuma/asterix..

Looking forward to hearing more about the WIldtopia, good to see them all together like that., I've just ordered one so far (might get a couple more later) & am waiting for it to arrive.

I get where they're going with the packaging - the standard size, all cardboard, but I don't get why they couldn't have just done 2 sizes (a bigger size for the larger animals)  & kept them all enclosed in the packaging..  I totally agree with you Tahra, clearly *someone* thought it was a cool idea, but in terms of how these will fare in store.. the packaging & figures are bound to get damaged & dirty.  I hope they change it if/when they do more. (& I hope they get a lot of feedback/complaints from customers about it).

OK. The quads are really cool!  I love the lime green one. *adds to wishlist*

Yes, I have both those spare. But someone nearer you may have them and help save on shipping costs (I am in UK).

Here it is http://animobil.info/text/3e258fc-1027.html (http://animobil.info/text/3e258fc-1027.html). Its an oldie!

eeoouw!

Oh, I see. Nice find! The toy which set back the acceptance of Playmobil in the US by 20 years. (that's probably a bit harsh, tbh).

Well I’ve just gone through all the pages of this thread in reverse order. I was only going to check a little of JLMatter’s collection, but what a journey!

Thought I’d post here to say how amazing it is to see the journey from one year onwards.

I realised I seem to have one of the horses with the moulded saddle, are those common? I always thought it was an oddity amongst the other horses

The dark brown and tan molded saddle horses are moderately common. You don't see them every day but they show up. White and black are pretty rare

For me, Hidan is the most striking figure. Sasuke's plastic rope-belt is also interesting.

I ordered 2 cases of Figs series 24 through Deluxe Toy & Hobby; the last PM shipment they received arrived with many damaged boxes & missing sets. 1 case of the figs made it in, but the shipping box had been smashed; the display box was banged up & 1 of the bags was missing (the female samurai). I'm told the other case is on the way & PM will send me another girls' bag - no guarantee it will be what I need. I hope to at least snag all the codes from series 22 or 23 & go for the golden knight.

It looks identical to the organ from that Victorian set of the organist with parrot (only it was light blue and secured on dog-pulled cart). If it's the same, I can hum you the tune, but I wouldn't know what it's called or who composed it

I doubt they'd produce a different sound for this small set alone, but I'm very curious to hear if they did. A Christmas song would be more suitable.

It's arrived, & is in excellent condition, & has never been used as the battery pull-tab was still in place. The battery is quite dead, though, & the organ only makes a weak whiney sound. On the back of the package it says, "Battery not replaceable."  Oh Playmobil, why?  ???

They are replaceable. There are several videos that show how to do it, but it should be quite easy to see how to do it once you take it apart. :)

Try inserting a small screwdriver or other suitable tool into those holes on the bottom to gently bend the plastic and remove the entire bottom piece from the box. The internal part (with the batteries) should then come out easily.
