I got the hosts to check it and their response was that there were no detectable problems with how the server was delivering mail from the website.  ???

In order to work out why it sometimes happens, we'd really need to know which email recipients are not getting the messages from the forum.

I'm wondering if it is specific to certain email providers, e.g. hotmail, gmail, etc. If so, it could be that they have blacklisted us or they have an anti-spam filter which is blocking the messages.

Hi Sylvia!
Thanks for the update and also for looking into this problem!  I will send you the specific information about 2 emails I know of that were generated from here that I did not receive (I did check my spam folder) as well as 1 or 2 that I sent which were also not received.  I can't tell you what the other members' email addresses were, though, as we members cannot see each other's email addresses as listed in our PF member profiles.

This doesn't seem like a critical issue, but it could be a frustrating one if people are sending or expecting emails and sometimes they don't go through.

I've done some testing this afternoon and sent my findings to the Dreamhost support team. Some email messages I sent were unsuccessful and others worked immediately. I've asked them to check their logs in case this can shed some light on the cause and provide a possible solution, I hope. :crossed:

Some new info I received:

Quote
I looked at the issue and found out that your script is using the person
who is contacting you as the sender:

To: daniela.schabenstiel@gmx.net
Subject: Luther sale
X-PHP-Originating-Script: 9972612:Subs-Post.php
From: "cmescn@gmail.com" <noreply@myserver.com>

If anyone is using your script using any popular email providers like
Gmail, Hotmail, Earthlink, Yahoo, AOL, etc, the email will not be sent.
You can view more information about our Outgoing SPAM prevention policy
here: http://dhurl.org/20b

You will need to edit your contact form and use a DreamHost hosted email
as the sender.

I'm not sure if I can fix this as I think it means finding the PHP files which make the email system work and changing some of the code.

If you know which page, copy the code and email it - if you want to... You can make a copy of the page and we'll give it a go.

I think we need to put the "from" email from the pf hosted email, and the "reply to" email to the sender's email. It doesn't SEEM like rocket science.... though sometimes it proves harder than what it seems, right?

From where did the code originate? I assume that it was just part of some package that you purchased? :)

I'll have to see if I can locate the file. Shouldn't be too hard. :)

The code is all part of the SMF package. I just install it to the webspace and update it whenever they say it's necessary. Very simple procedure. And it's 100% free. :)
